Tallapoosa, GA - The City of Tallapoosa, GA announces the return of the annual Possum Drop New Year’s Eve celebration after it was canceled due to the COVID virus in 2020. The Possum Drop is an iconic celebration in the Southeast that attracts 8000 to 10,000 attendees each year to this West GA town with a population of less than 3000.
The Possum Drop has gained National, as well as World Wide attention. On NYE 2019 our Host of the Possum Drop, George Franco was interviewed by ABC Australia in a live interview which aired across Australia on New Year’s Eve. Our event has been featured on CNN, Fox News New York, Fox & Friends, WKFI Los Angeles and many media outlets.
The Possum Drop is a Family Friendly event with entertainment for all ages. A special Kids Zone area features a 57FT Ferris Wheel, Rides and Games in a County Fair atmosphere. There is a Early 9PM Drop for the kids, complete with fireworks.
The event features “Spencer” our famous Stuffed Possum who was found many years ago dead in the road by local taxidermist Bud Jones. The town of Tallapoosa was once named Possum Snout by the local Indians in the area, Spencer was named after Ralph Spencer a prominent businessman in the late 1800’s.
The event will be held in the downtown area of Tallapoosa on December 31. 2021. Music will begin on the main stage at 6PM with a Fireworks Display at midnight to conclude the celebration.
